PostModern Company

David Emrich is President of PostModern Company, a corporation that specializes in video production, radio production, and audio and video restoration for advertising agencies, corporations, film studios, and the Federal government.  David, who has worked in film and video for 28 years, started his own business in 1992. In 2002, he renovated a building in the LoDo section of Denver to accommodate Postmodern’s studio needs. In 2004, he was awarded a Prime Contract to provide PostModern’s services inside the Federal government.

David recognized a pressing need to address substantial changes in his industry, so he began to make changes to his business model. He found that lack of adequate communication about these changes often lead to misunderstandings within his company and, therefore, lack of buy-in by his employees. With the encouragement of his TAB facilitator/coach, Larry Rowland, David instituted weekly staff meetings to ensure that everyone knows what’s going on. David says, “Internally, I already have the management structure to run operations day-to-day in place. My core job as owner has been to anticipate two years ahead. For a long time, I had hesitated to institute staff meetings, because my management team had always resisted attending meetings. Now I’m able to talk about my plans for the future with my senior management group. They now understand and support my changes. Another out-growth has been the delegation of personnel issues, which are now being handled better than ever before.”

David reports that the one thing he has learned over and over again from TAB is his personal responsibility and accountability as a business owner. “When I am not doing what I need to be doing, the business suffers. Sometimes it’s even difficult to know what I should be doing. I came on the TAB board knowing that I had been re-inventing the wheel, and that there were people who have already been down many of the same roads I’m on. My other resources never were able to go deep enough with me to give me the perspectives I needed. TAB makes me a better business owner and makes my company a better company.”
